Nassau Harbour Eastern Anchorage
25° 4.5′ N · 77° 18.7′ W
A narrow sand shelf on the south side of the harbour east of Nassau Harbour Club, close to the Fresh Market/Harbour Bay shopping and the east-end marine stores. It is the anchorage for the east-end chandleries, but it is current-swept and the bottom is foul.
Practical
Waterway Guide position N 25°04.515' W 077°18.660'; depths 8-10 ft. Fair holding in sand and grass over hard bottom. Protected S through NE but exposed to the east, with a very strong reversing tidal current: watch the boat through a full tide cycle, because a seemingly well-set anchor can pop loose at the turn. The bottom is fouled with remains of sunken boats; expect to bring up wire, rope or debris (a trip line is wise). Lots of daytime wakes; a 2023 reviewer found it crowded with no wake restriction enforced. Land the dinghy at Nassau Harbour Club (fee). Call Nassau Harbour Control on VHF 16 when moving in the harbour. ActiveCaptain (East Nassau Channel, updated July 2026): popular area between the marinas and the yacht club in 8-20 ft with a couple of skinny spots; good holding but heavy traffic; tie the dinghy at the Rubis fuel dock or the yacht club; groceries and liquor in Harbour Bay Plaza across the road. The 3-day harbour anchoring limit reported in February 2025 applies inside the harbour.
