Kenai Fjords Coast Rules and Port Graham Land Permits (Aialik Bay)

59° 48.9′ N · 149° 42.3′ W · approximate

The park's rules for boaters on the coast and the permit needed for Native corporation land. Together they define how close you can go to glaciers and where you can land.

Practical

Position is an arbitrary point in Aialik Bay. Key rules from the NPS: stay at least half a mile from any glacier terminus; do not land or camp within two miles of tidewater ice; stay 100 yards from marine mammals; and use bear-proof lockers or food hung from trees (canisters at Tooth Cove). Abra Cove, Northwestern Lagoon and Pedersen Lagoon are Port Graham Village Corporation land; a special permit is needed to camp or walk above the high-tide line (corporation phone 907-284-2212 per the NPS). Lockers are provided at Abra Cove (south side), Bear Cove, Holgate Arm, McMullen Cove and several fjord beaches. The cabin pages say no mooring buoys exist at the cabin beaches. I found no separate entry permit for private vessels anchoring in the park (unconfirmed).
