Tobago Repairs and Chandlery (none on island: use Chaguaramas)

11° 11.1′ N · 60° 44.4′ W

Tobago has no boatyard, travel-lift, marina or yacht chandlery; for anything beyond a DIY fix, the answer is Chaguaramas in Trinidad, one of the best-equipped repair centres in the Caribbean, across the passage to the south-west.

Practical

Position is Almandoz Hardware on Wilson Road, Scarborough (OpenStreetMap; hours listed there as Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm, Saturday 8am to 1pm), the nearest general hardware store to the Scarborough anchorage. Other hardware stores mapped around Scarborough and Canaan include Richard's Hardware Supplies and Singh's Hardware (Scarborough) and Stumpy's Hardware (Canaan, on Milford Road, a taxi ride from Store Bay); expect stainless fasteners, hose, sealants and electrical basics, not marine parts. Noonsite's Store Bay and Charlotteville sections for boatyards, engines and mechanical repair, and marine supplies list no businesses (April and September 2024). Car-repair and auto-parts shops exist (for example Federal Auto Supplies, Carnbee) and can sometimes help with belts, filters and batteries. Chaguaramas yards named by Caribbean Beat include Coral Cove, Peake Yacht Services and Power Boats, offering haul-out, fibreglass, welding, electronics, engine repair and sail-making. Order parts to Trinidad or fly in as personal luggage; there is also the inter-island ferry. Plan major work before or after the Tobago leg.
