Scarborough Harbour Anchorage

11° 10.7′ N · 60° 44.2′ W · approximate

Tobago's capital and main port, a lively hillside town under Fort King George. Yachts anchor briefly behind the seawall to clear in, but the busy ferry harbour is no place to stay.

Practical

Position is a point inside the harbour near the seawall, derived from Noonsite's harbour-entrance fix (11°10.67'N 60°44.19'W) and OpenStreetMap pier positions (approx). Noonsite (docking July 2022, clearance September 2024): anchor behind the seawall in the designated area to go ashore and clear; space is extremely limited with many local boats and turning ferries, and holding is poor, so make sure the anchor is set before leaving the boat. It may be possible to berth at the Government/Coast Guard dock when the local boats are out. A portable water tap is on the pier in town (filter recommended). Most cruisers anchor in Store Bay, about 9 nm away, and come by taxi. The February 2024 Gulfstream oil spill heavily oiled the Atlantic coast from Cove Reef to Scarborough; clean-up ended in April 2024.
