Speightstown Anchorage
13° 15.1′ N · 59° 38.9′ W · approximate
An open anchorage off Barbados's second town, 'Little Bristol', with a fish market, a seafront esplanade, rum-shop dining at the Fisherman's Pub and supermarkets steps from the beach.
Practical
Position is a point in the water about 350 m off the Speightstown fish market, derived from OpenStreetMap shoreline features (approx). Noonsite: Speightstown and Holetown are open anchorages, unprotected from swells but pretty. Speightstown has shops, bars and restaurants (population about 1,000). Land the dinghy on the beach with care in any swell. Provisioning: Jordans and Eddies supermarkets and the fish market are by the waterfront. Port St Charles fuel and clearance are about a mile north. Get coastal-cruising permission from Customs if you cleared in at Bridgetown.
Best for
Day stop or quiet nights off a historic town
Season
Settled trades; untenable in north and north-west ground swells
