Shakem Wreck (Shake'm, off Quarantine Point)

12° 1.5′ N · 61° 47.1′ W

The Shakem is a 180 ft cement freighter that capsized in a storm in 2001 and now sits upright and intact off Quarantine Point, cement bags still in the hold and the crane still standing. Divers can work through the bridge, captain's quarters and engine room in usually calm water.

Practical

Position is the WikiBubbles dive-directory mark for the site; dive boats use their own GPS marks, so treat it as the general location. Depth: Eco Dive gives 55–100 ft (16–30 m); Bradt says she sits on the seabed at 105 ft; WikiBubbles averages 23 m with 30 m maximum. Rated advanced by Eco Dive and for 'competent divers' by Bradt, because of the depth and interior penetration. Expect large gorgonians, soft corals, seahorses, green morays and lobster (Bradt). It lies inside the Grand Anse Marine Protected Area approach, so do not anchor over it; go with a local operator (Eco Dive, Aquanauts, Dive Grenada).
