Saline Island Snorkel

12° 26.1′ N · 61° 28.5′ W · approximate

The reefs around uninhabited Saline Island, off Carriacou's south coast, have vibrant corals, sea fans and schools of tangs, grunts and jacks. Turtles turn up often, and shallow areas suit beginners.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: in the water about 140 m off Saline Island's north-west shore (from the OpenStreetMap coastline), near the Saline Island Anchorage entry. Dive Carriacou: colourful corals, sea fans and sea whips, schools of sergeant majors, tangs and wrasse, likely sea turtles (the island is a nesting spot), and a mix of sand patches, rock and coral formations with gullies and drop-offs. It says the shallows near the beach suit beginners, with deeper spots and possible currents further out, and the beach itself is rocky. Its guided Saline trip costs US$65 per person (2025, minimum 2). Noforeignland cruisers report abundant marine life but strong currents on spring tides, which make anchoring awkward, and a sudden drop-off in depth. Snorkel close to slack water and keep a dinghy or float with you. The Saline Express dive site lies just north.
