Saline Island Anchorage

12° 26.1′ N · 61° 28.6′ W · approximate

A quiet anchorage off Saline Island and White Island, the uninhabited cays just south of Carriacou: turquoise water, sand, a big salt pond ashore and some of the best snorkelling in Grenada's Grenadines.

Practical

Coordinate is about 160 m off Saline Island's north-west shore, between Saline and White islands, derived from the OpenStreetMap islet outlines (approx); confirm on a current chart and approach in good light. Noforeignland reviewers (2026): mostly good holding in sand, but the bottom drops off, which complicates anchoring, and strong currents, especially at spring tides, can affect the swing; peaceful, with abundant marine life. It is reef-strewn around the islands, so eyeball-navigate. Saline Island (64 acres) has a large salt pond, wild goats, sea turtles and birds, the remains of a lime kiln and a single watchman's house (Wikipedia). OpenStreetMap marks the ruins of a salt storeroom on the north shore. Dive Carriacou runs a non-guided 'Big Snorkel Adventure' trip to Saline. About 2 nm from Tyrrel Bay.
