Port Elizabeth Chandleries and Sail Lofts

13° 0.7′ N · 61° 14.2′ W · approximate

Bequia has been a boat-repair stop for generations: small chandleries and marine parts shops along Front Street, and traditional sail lofts where sailmakers still sit at floor-level machines restitching sails and sunshades.

Practical

Position is Magville Auto & Marine Supplies on OpenStreetMap (approx); other shops are within a few minutes' walk. Named businesses (check which still trade): Alick's Sails / Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy (OSM, Back Street area), Grenadines Sails & Canvas (North Sails agent), Bequia Canvas, Grenadines Yacht & Equipment and Wallace & Co chandlery (Antilles Guide directory, older). Sailmaker Avell Davis quoted US$300 and a day's work to restitch a genoa sunshade (2022 cruiser account). Mechanics: Kerry's Marine Services (KMS) on VHF 68 towed and fixed a disabled boat in 2024 (Noonsite comment); Simpson Engineering and Vitton's Marine Services are older listings. SVG Yacht Services (Belmont Road) is a yacht agency for clearance, parts and technical help. Doyle notes the Bequia Bookshop (nautical books and charts) has closed. Most sail lofts monitor VHF 68.
