Petit Nevis Anchorage and Whaling Station
12° 58.4′ N · 61° 14.9′ W · approximate
A small private island off Bequia's south coast where Bequia's whalers once butchered their catch; the ruined try-works, concrete slip and old pier still stand. Anchor off the pier for a day of snorkelling and a walk among the ruins.
Practical
Position approximate: placed ~170 m off Petit Nevis's west shore using OpenStreetMap coastline; confirm the pier location by eye. Petit Nevis is privately owned (Wikipedia); whaling stopped here in 2006 and processing moved to Semple Cay. noforeignland reviewers (2026): anchor in front of the old concrete pier; the bay can be rolly and strong currents make swimming hazardous; most treat it as a day stop, overnight only in settled weather. Doyle describes it as a daytime anchorage. Snorkelling near the anchorage is excellent but mind the current. Approach from Friendship Bay in good light; Semple Cay, Middle Cay and Syrup Cay lie between Bequia and Petit Nevis.
