Friendship Bay Anchorage

12° 59.1′ N · 61° 14.0′ W

A crescent bay on Bequia's south coast with shady beach, the Bequia Beach Hotel and the Sand Bar ashore, and views out to Petit Nevis and the old whaling station. Quieter than Admiralty Bay and the start of the Double-Ender Big Boat races at Easter.

Practical

Coordinate is Doyle's Friendship Bay waypoint (N12 59.1', W061 14.0'). Noonsite: sheltered, secure anchoring in good holding sand, but watch for small moorings on the east side; the bay can be affected by swell. A Christmas 2017 cruiser report found it quite rolly with heavy swell, and noted the hotel's large concrete superyacht pontoon is too high for a dinghy (use the lower part round the side, and don't get wedged under it). Good snorkelling, diving and windsurfing (Noonsite, Ins & Outs). Bequia Beach Hotel offers day passes (from US$75 per Ins & Outs; verify locally). The Bequia Heritage Museum is a short, steep walk up from the anchorage.

Best for

A quieter south-coast anchorage in settled trades

Season

Settled east to north-east trades; rolly with south-east wind or swell
