Martinique West Coast Whale and Dolphin Watching

14° 40.8′ N · 61° 13.2′ W · approximate

Dolphins and whales travel the deep water off Martinique's Caribbean coast, and the passage between Dominica and Martinique is known for sperm whale sightings. Day boats from Case-Pilote and Trois-Îlets go out to look for them.

Practical

Martinique tourism: dolphins and whales come to the island's warm, calm waters to breed and give birth. Dolphin and cetacean trips (for example Kairidream) leave from the Trois-Îlets / Pointe du Bout area, and ActiveCaptain notes whale and dolphin tours from Case-Pilote. A cruising couple crossing from Dominica in February 2024 saw whale spouts and charter boats out looking for sperm whales. Our sources do not give a peak season or local approach distances, so slow down, do not chase or cut across their path, and keep well clear of mothers and calves. Position is a representative offshore point west of Case-Pilote, approximate.
