Anse du Carbet Beach
14° 42.4′ N · 61° 11.0′ W
A wide grey-sand beach shaded by coconut palms, lined with gommier fishing boats and beach restaurants, with a view straight up the coast to Mont Pelée. Columbus is said to have landed here on June 15, 1502.
Practical
Martinique tourism: fishing is a major activity, and you can watch fishermen pull in the seine in the early morning and eat fish specialities in nearby restaurants. Little shade at the southern end. Battered by waves in N or NW gales. Plage du Coin at the south end of town has more beach restaurants (OSM). Land the dinghy carefully, as there is no sheltered dock in our sources. Position from Martinique tourism.
Best for
Beach lunch and swimming on the north Caribbean coast
