Le François Anchorage (Baie du François)

14° 37.4′ N · 60° 53.7′ W

The inner bay of Le François, reached through the reefs from the Atlantic, with mangroves, islets and the town's marina. It is the base for Habitation Clément and a rare dinghy-to-supermarket run.

Practical

Position from Anchorages.co, which notes mud and weed in places and plenty of mangroves and islets. The entrance through the outer reef is well marked but shoals are everywhere; do not try it at night (Multihulls World). Fit2Sail (2023) anchored close to the canal that leads to the Carrefour car park in Le François and dinghied in. There is no proper dinghy landing there; the town dock is about a mile's walk from the store. Marina du François is at Pointe Bateau, and its capitainerie is an approved customs clearance point open daily 8 am-6 pm (+596 596 54 29 54). Boatnews rates the Baie du François a beginner kite zone.
