Îlet Oscar / Îlet Thierry Anchorage

14° 37.6′ N · 60° 51.0′ W · approximate

The classic windward-coast anchorage: flat turquoise water between Îlet Oscar and Îlet Thierry inside the François barrier reef, steps from the Baignoire de Joséphine sandbank.

Practical

Position is approximate, the midpoint between Îlet Oscar and Îlet Thierry (OSM and Wikipedia positions). Multihulls World calls the anchorage excellent and well protected, but not for deep draft. Douglas Yacht Services says yachts anchor among the islands depending on sea conditions. Fit2Sail (2023) saw a few moorings near the Baignoire that may mark an underwater cable, so anchor clear of them on sand. Enter through the François pass in daylight only. Day-tripper boats with music and rum arrive about 10 am-4 pm, and weekends are busiest (Régis Guillemot), so lunch elsewhere and enjoy mornings and evenings. Îlet Oscar holds a historic Creole house (La Maison de l'Îlet Oscar) that can be booked privately.
