Fonds Blancs - Baignoires de Joséphine (Le François)

14° 37.7′ N · 60° 50.9′ W

Waist-deep white-sand shoals in the middle of the lagoon off Îlet Oscar and Îlet Thierry, where locals stand in turquoise water with a ti-punch. Legend links them to Empress Joséphine.

Practical

Position from French Wikipedia (Baignoire de Joséphine). Multihulls World: a sandy shoal where you bathe in less than a metre of water with the Atlantic in front and Martinique behind. Tourist boats arrive about 10 am to 3-4 pm with music, rum and barbecues, so come early or late. Boatnews: a kite spot in south-easterly winds, best at low tide when not crowded with boats. Douglas Yacht Services notes coral outcrops throughout the reef system, so go slowly by dinghy. Weekends are very busy.
