Enbas Saut Waterfall Trail (Edmund Forest Reserve)

A rainforest trail into the Edmund Forest Reserve below Mount Gimie that drops down a long flight of steps to the Enbas Saut waterfalls and their natural pools, the island's classic wet-boots rainforest walk and one of the best chances to hear or see the St Lucia parrot.

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap trailhead information board (node 13642628634), which reads: 'Welcome to Enbas Saut Waterfall & Trail. Entering the Forest is Strictly Prohibited By Law, Permission Must Be Obtained From the Forestry Department.' The trail is tagged access=permit in OpenStreetMap and runs about 1.2 km (measured along the mapped path; approx) to the lower falls at about 13.8505°N, 61.0018°W (OpenStreetMap node 6330926454). A second board on the Edmund Forest Trail nearby (about 13.8415°N, 61.0032°W) says permission must be obtained from the Forest and Lands Department at Union, Castries. The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority describes the longer guided Edmund Rainforest Trail as linking forest reserves and leading toward the Enbas Saut waterfalls with river crossings and dense vegetation; Enbas Saut itself ends at a series of waterfalls with natural pools. Go with a licensed guide or arrange permission and a forestry guide in advance; fees: verify locally. The trailhead is inland, reached by taxi or a tour from Soufrière (no public transport to the trailhead), so leave the boat on an SMMA mooring in Soufrière Bay. Expect mud, slippery steps and rain at any time of year; bring water, insect repellent and shoes that can get wet. Best early morning for birds.
