Bathsheba and the Soup Bowl

13° 12.9′ N · 59° 31.4′ W

On the wild Atlantic coast, mushroom-shaped boulders stand in the surf at Bathsheba, and the Soup Bowl reef break throws waves that Kelly Slater rates among his favourites.

Practical

Position is the Soup Bowl from Visit Barbados. A road trip, not an anchorage: the east coast is rocky and exposed and Noonsite says to give it a wide berth. Waves are about 2-3 ft in July and August and 3-6 ft in September and October, and winter north swells and distant hurricanes can push them over 15 ft between November and April (Visit Barbados). Swimming is unsafe for most people, but there are small tide pools in the flat rocks. Rum shops and seafood restaurants line the village. Combine with Andromeda Gardens and Hackleton's Cliff.
