Baliceaux Garifuna Heritage Site
12° 57.0′ N · 61° 8.7′ W
In the 1790s the British exiled about 5,000 Garifuna to Baliceaux after the Second Carib War; more than half died of starvation and disease before the survivors were shipped to Roatán, Honduras. The unmarked graves make the island a sacred place for the Garifuna diaspora.
Practical
Coordinates from Wikipedia. Every March, coinciding with National Heroes' Day in SVG, a pilgrimage to Baliceaux commemorates the deportation. The graves have never been officially marked or excavated - tread carefully and leave everything as you find it. The government acquired the island in 2025 for its cultural significance.
