Soper's Hole Mooring Field (West End)

18° 23.1′ N · 64° 42.2′ W

A deep, hill-ringed harbour between Tortola's West End and Frenchman's Cay: a port of entry, ferry dock, marinas, shops and Pusser's Landing, and the natural first or last stop for boats crossing to or from St John.

Practical

Moorings throughout the harbour: Noonsite (Jan 2025) says US$30/night collected by boat at about 5 pm, Wi-Fi not included; BoatyBall now lists Soper's Hole among its reservable BVI moorings at US$55/night, released daily at 7 am, check-in and check-out noon (2026). Anchoring room is now very limited by the mooring field; the old anchorage in the north-east part of the harbour carried 7 to 9 m over sand, and Lower Belmont Bay is suggested as an alternative (avoid coral). Deep, straightforward entrance but strong currents and heavy ferry traffic. Security: dinghy and outboard theft is a known problem; lift and lock dinghies even when cable-locked, and do not leave valuables on deck. Refuse disposal and water at the ferry-terminal dinghy dock. Yacht Warriors notes many charter skippers use it for fuel, water, provisions and customs rather than overnighting.

Best for

Clearing in or out to the USVI; provisioning and fuel at the west end

Season

Year-round; currents run through the harbour entrance
