Soggy Dollar Bar
18° 26.6′ N · 64° 45.8′ W
The White Bay beach bar where the Painkiller was invented in the 1970s, named for the wet dollars of sailors who swam ashore to pay. Dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple and orange juice under fresh-grated nutmeg, toes in the sand.
Practical
On the west side of White Bay with the Sandcastle Hotel (founded 1970). Tel +1 284 495 9888; relax@soggydollar.com. Serves coffee, breakfast, lunch and evening appetizers; Sunday BBQ; lobster, local fish, tacos and hot dogs (soggydollar.com, 2026). No dock: swim in or beach the dinghy. The bar was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017, reopened that New Year's Eve, and the Sandcastle Hotel reopened in 2023 (Noonsite). Try the ring game. Busiest from late morning when USVI day boats arrive.
