Salt River Canyon (East Wall, Barracuda Bank)

17° 47.1′ N · 64° 45.2′ W · approximate

'The fishiest dive on the North Shore': a sloping wall of hard-coral formations and pinnacles on the east side of the Salt River canyon, a quarter mile across the chasm from the West Wall.

Practical

Position approximate: GoToStCroix's listing coordinate (17.775 N, 64.75 W) is rounded and falls in the bay, so this is placed outside the reef east of the West Wall, using the listing's quarter-mile spacing between the walls. Boat dive only: the mooring is in about 40 ft; the wall slopes through sand chutes from 40 to 80 ft and then drops past 1,000 ft. Visibility 60 to 80 ft, up to 100 ft; surge and current at the corner. Schools of black durgon, yellowtail, barracuda; blacktip reef sharks off the drop; hammerheads occasionally (GoToStCroix).
