Pomato Point Anchorage

18° 43.3′ N · 64° 23.7′ W · approximate

The western end of the Setting Point roadstead, off the low sandy point where Sid's Pomato Point Restaurant sits. Quieter than the main mooring field, and the spot cruising writers point deeper-draft boats toward.

Practical

Position is approximate: placed in the water just east-southeast of Pomato Point (GeoNames point 18.72353, -64.39868), inside the area Noonsite describes as 'the anchorage between Setting Point and Pomato Point'. Yacht Warriors notes Pomato Point is suggested for deeper-draft vessels and lies about 1 nm from Setting Point, but that some charter companies mark it off-limits; check your charter briefing. Sail Magazine (2015) likewise describes a small anchorage for boats drawing 6 ft or more alongside the catamaran mooring field. No published depth figures were found: sound your way in from the end of the buoyed channel in good light with a bow lookout, and anchor in clear sand only (anchoring on coral and on Horseshoe Reef is prohibited). Land the dinghy at Sid's or walk the beach from the Setting Point docks.

Best for

A quieter anchoring alternative to the mooring field, closer to Pomato Point beach and Sid's
