Maya Cove Anchorage

18° 25.5′ N · 64° 33.9′ W · approximate

A small, reef-protected cove at Tortola's east end, sheltered by high hills and a long reef, cool in the trades and, according to both marinas.com and long-term residents, refreshingly bug-free.

Practical

Position approximate: placed inside the cove just east of the Hodges Creek and Tropic Island marinas (marinas.com positions); the marinas.com Maya Cove harbour point (18.4285, -64.5584) marks the entrance. Enter from the south or west via Paraquita Bay, then head west into the cove opening; a long reef runs north-east across the entrance and the marked channel carries 8 to 10 ft (marinas.com). A Noonsite contributor (2015) warned that the outer channel buoys were missing and advised using the remaining two red buoys as a range from well out in the bay; reef and shallows lie on both sides. A mooring field lies to the south inside the cove; Hodges Creek moorings have been reported as unevenly maintained, and anchoring room is limited by charter fleets (Noonsite, 2013). The cove shoals toward its head.

Best for

Calm, breezy overnight near the east-end charter bases
