Lobster Dinners (Anegada spiny lobster)

18° 43.4′ N · 64° 22.9′ W · approximate

Anegada's signature: clawless Caribbean spiny lobster caught on the reef that day, kept in pens beside each restaurant's dock and grilled over an open wood or charcoal fire, usually with butter and lime. Every beach restaurant at Setting Point serves it, and it is the reason most boats make the crossing.

Practical

Position is approximate: the middle of the Setting Point beach restaurants (Potter's, Anegada Reef Hotel, Lobster Trap, Wonky Dog, Neptune's Treasure). How it works: restaurants cook only what is ordered, so book and choose your lobster on arrival. Published cutoffs (verify locally): Anegada Reef Hotel 3 pm (Sail Magazine 2015), Cow Wreck Beach Bar and Sid's Pomato Point by 4 pm, Potter's by 5 pm (BVI Tourism listings), and a 2012 visitor was told 4 pm at the beach restaurants. Local operators often meet arriving boats by dinghy to take dinner orders and arrange taxis. Example prices (Wonky Dog website, October 2026): US$40 for a half to US$99 for a large and US$150 for the biggest; BVI Tourism listings show price ranges topping out around US$50 to US$53 (older, verify locally). Lobster season generally runs early November to the end of July and changes yearly; lobster may be taken only by licensed BVI fishers, so visitors may not catch their own.
