Humpback whales migrate along the Puerto Rico Trench just off St Croix's north shore in late winter; divers on Cane Bay and the Salt River canyon often hear their song underwater.

Position approximate: Cane Bay Wall. GoToStCroix gives February to March for whale song at Salt River Canyon and March to April for sightings or song at Cane Bay. Keep a lookout on the St Thomas crossing and the north shore, slow down near whales, and keep your distance.
