17° 42.0′ N · 64° 51.8′ W
An eighteenth-century Danish sugar estate run by the St Croix Landmarks Society, with windmill and sugar-factory ruins that tell the story of sugar, rum and slavery on St Croix.
Practical
Coordinate from GoToStCroix's listing (52 Estate Whim, Frederiksted). The great house was badly damaged in Hurricane Maria (2017) and is closed; the grounds and factory ruins are open Wednesday and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm and on cruise-ship days; library and archives by appointment (GoToStCroix; verify locally). The Landmarks Society also runs the Lawaetz Museum in the rainforest valley north of Frederiksted (tours Saturdays 11 am to 3 pm per GoToStCroix).
