Cow Wreck Beach
18° 44.8′ N · 64° 23.7′ W
A long, nearly empty white-sand beach on the northwest shore with a calm, shallow turquoise lagoon inside the reef. Cattle bones washed ashore from the 1929 wreck of the Rocus, whose cargo was cow bones for fertiliser, are said to have given it its name.
Practical
Position is the GeoNames point for Cow Wreck Bay. About 1.8 nm from Setting Point by sea but enclosed by reef: get there by taxi, rental or a long walk clockwise around the west end. Calm lagoon swimming and shell-collecting; Yacht Charter Fleet notes it is popular for kiteboarding and windsurfing because the reef blocks the waves. Restrooms and the beach bar are at the west end (OpenStreetMap). Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water.
Best for
A lazy beach afternoon and calm lagoon swim
