Buck Island SCUBA Cut Mooring
17° 47.3′ N · 64° 36.7′ W
One of only two places in the monument where scuba is allowed: shallow dives of 30 to 40 ft through haystack formations of elkhorn coral at the reef cut.
Practical
Coordinate is the NPS 'SCUBA Cut Mooring' in the Superintendent's Compendium, Appendix A (17.789074 N, 64.611911 W). Scuba in the monument is limited to the lagoon and the Boat Cut and SCUBA Cut moorings; it is banned on the underwater trail. Conservative recreational-agency limits apply; dive flag required. Live-boating is discouraged because the reef breaks are narrow and shallow with surge and current. Concessioners need written approval to run scuba here, so private divers should plan carefully or use a licensed operator.
Best for
A shallow elkhorn dive inside the monument
