Beach· St Thomas· Virgin Islands (BVI, USVI and Spanish Virgins)
Botany Bay (West End)
18° 21.5′ N · 65° 2.1′ W · approximate
A shallow bight at the far western tip of St. Thomas, separated from Sandy Bay by a rocky point and looking out to Little St. Thomas and West Cay.
Practical
Position approximate: just seaward of the OpenStreetMap 'Botany Bay' label, checked to be in the water. Coast Pilot: Sandy Bay and Botany Bay are shallow bights where small-boat landings can be made in calm weather; when it is too rough to land there, small boats use the gravel cove south of the Little St. Thomas peninsula. Big Current Hole, between West Cay and Little St. Thomas, has strong currents and heavy tide rips that make the passage difficult (Coast Pilot); avoid it. Day stop by dinghy from a boat hove-to or anchored off in calm conditions only. Not a DPNR designated anchorage.
Best for
A calm-day exploration of the remote West End
Season
Calm days only
