Southwest Road Anchorage
18° 20.1′ N · 64° 59.4′ W · approximate
An open roadstead on St. Thomas's southwest coast between the Flat Cays and Perseverance Bay, recommended by the Coast Pilot as an excellent anchorage in winds as far south as east-southeast.
Practical
Position approximate: in the roadstead between Flat Cays and Perseverance Bay, checked to be in the water and about 600 m offshore. Coast Pilot: anchor where convenient after entering through any of the channels between the islands and shoals; sailing vessels should enter from the east between Water Island and Porpoise Rocks (lighted buoy on their southwest side), favoring Water Island, then pass between Flat Cays and the shoal off Red Point. A submerged wreck covered 28 ft lies in the west approach at about 18 18.8'N, 65 02.5'W (1993 report). Perseverance Bay has 13 fathoms about 0.4 mile offshore with coral reefs fringing the beach. Not on the DPNR designated-anchorage list; check stay limits.
