Biras Creek Anchorage (North Sound)

18° 29.6′ N · 64° 21.6′ W · approximate

The quiet southeast corner of North Sound at the mouth of mangrove-lined Biras Creek, below Biras Hill and a short dinghy ride from Bitter End.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: at the OpenStreetMap Biras Creek bay label (18.49351, -64.35927), nudged slightly into open water. The Coast Pilot calls Gorda Sound an excellent, roomy harbour sheltered from all winds and protected from rollers, and places Biras Creek in its southeast corner. Hazard: Oyster Rock, about 150 yards off the south shore in the approach to Biras Creek, is a pinnacle with only 2 ft over it, surrounded by a shallow patch; approach in good light. The former Biras Creek resort marina (marinas.com position 18.4936, -64.3533, listing unclaimed, no current details) sits farther up the creek. No current source gives depths, moorings or fees for anchoring at the creek mouth, so most boats take a Bitter End or Saba Rock mooring (see those entries) and come in by dinghy or kayak. Tide in the sound is chiefly diurnal and the currents weak (Coast Pilot).
