Similan Seasonal Closure (mid-May to mid-Oct)
8° 39.1′ N · 97° 38.4′ E
The Similan and Surin parks close every year for the southwest monsoon, and visiting during the closure is illegal.
Practical
Coordinate is the Wikipedia park reference point. The closure normally runs 16 May to 15 October, and the park can close earlier in bad weather (Wikipedia; Thai National Parks). The 2025 closure ran 16 May to 14 October 2025 (area sources), and the 2026 closure ran 16 May to 15 October 2026, covering both Similan and Surin (Thairath, 15 May 2026). The 2026–27 season opened on 15 October 2026. Operators running trips during the closure are breaking the law (Wikivoyage). Even outside the official dates, the Southeast Asia Pilot advises against cruising to the Similans in the SW monsoon because of heavy swell, squalls and few protected anchorages. Check the DNP announcement each year before planning.
