Shark Point Snorkel (Hin Phae), Long Beach

7° 43.5′ N · 98° 47.3′ E · approximate

The rocks off the end of Long Beach (Hat Yao) where blacktip reef sharks patrol the shallows: Phi Phi's most popular shark-snorkelling spot, reached by kayak, longtail or from the beach.

Practical

Position approx: OpenStreetMap 'Shark Point' node at the south end of Long Beach. Naming varies: Wikivoyage lists Hin Pae as a shallow 10-15 m site good for snorkelling with coral fish, crabs and lobsters, but does not confirm it is this point; it also says The Adventure Club runs 'Shark Watch' snorkel trips to Shark Point and Paradise Diving on Long Beach guides snorkellers to blacktip reef sharks. This is a different site from Hin Bida (the Phi Phi 'Shark Point' dive) and from Shark Point near Phuket. Go early in the morning for the best chance of sharks. Do not touch or feed them; no anchoring on coral.
