Bang Po Anchorage

9° 35.1′ N · 99° 57.0′ E · approximate

An open roadstead off Bang Po beach on Samui's quiet northwest coast, west of Maenam: a long, local-feeling beach with seafood restaurants and sunsets over the mainland.

Practical

Approximate position about 0.5 km off the middle of the OSM Bang Po beach outline (way 199281380, shoreline near 9.578-9.582, 99.936-99.965), derived, not surveyed; no cruising guide consulted gives depth or holding here. Southeast Asia Pilot anchors at neighbouring Maenam in 4-6 m on sand and warns of a submerged rock off Laem Na Rang, so approach along this coast in daylight with the chart and a bow lookout. The beach faces north: comfortable in the SW monsoon, but exposed to N and NE winds and swell from about November to February. Maenam (Lotus's supermarket, Immigration Office) is about 4 km east by road.

Best for

A peaceful SW-season overnight away from the north-coast crowds

Season

SW monsoon (May-Oct); exposed N and NE
