Ao Phra-Ae (Long Beach) Mooring, Layana Resort
7° 36.6′ N · 99° 1.6′ E · approximate
Lanta's busiest strip of sand, Long Beach (Phra Ae), backed by bars, restaurants and small resorts. The Layana Resort and Spa, a 50-room boutique hotel that welcomes yachts, has a mooring off its beach.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot reports a mooring in 6 m in front of Layana Resort and Spa; ask the resort before picking it up. Otherwise anchor off the beach on sand in under 10 m. Same exposure as Khlong Dao: fine in the NE monsoon, no shelter in the SW monsoon. A dangerous rock, awash at low tide, lies between Phra Ae and Khlong Dao a mile north, so approach from seaward rather than coasting between the two bays. Ashore: the Tides restaurant at Layana, Irie Bar, a Monday market and several clinics (Andaman International, First Lanta International) along the beach road. Position approximate: about 450 m offshore of the centre of Pra Ae Beach as mapped in OpenStreetMap; the Pilot gives no waypoint for the mooring.
Best for
Lively beach evening ashore while lying to a resort mooring
Season
Nov-Apr; exposed in the SW monsoon
