Ao Nam Mao Anchorage

8° 1.2′ N · 98° 51.6′ E · approximate

A quiet mud-and-sand bay ('drunken water bay') just east of Railay, with restaurants, a supermarket and an ATM ashore and the fossil shell beach at its eastern point. Charter companies use it as an overnight between Phang Nga Bay and Phi Phi.

Practical

Position approx: plotted in the bay south of Ban Ao Nam Mao (OpenStreetMap village node 8.0309N 98.8629E); no published waypoint was found, so sound in carefully on the shallow, muddy shelf. The Moorings describes free anchoring only, no mooring buoys, mud or sand with generally good holding; anchor well clear of the longtail channels and allow for the tidal range (spring range here can exceed 2.5 m). Restaurants, bars, ATM, a supermarket and trash disposal ashore; Ao Nang is a short ride away.

Best for

A quiet overnight close to Railay and Krabi
