Railay East Anchorage

8° 0.6′ N · 98° 50.6′ E

The mangrove-fringed east side of the Railay peninsula, where supply boats and longtails from Krabi land at a long floating pontoon. It gives reasonable shelter from westerly wind and swell when the west-facing beaches are untenable.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°00.586N 98°50.619E, about 3 nm from Ao Nang. Reasonable shelter, particularly from the west. Shared with supply boats and day-trip longtails. Tie the dinghy toward the seaward end of the long floating pontoon; wear footwear and carry a torch after dark. The shore is mangrove and mud, unsuitable for swimming (Wikipedia). A paved path leads to a middle area with supermarkets, restaurants and bars, and on to Railay West.
