Ao Chaweng Anchorage
9° 31.1′ N · 100° 3.7′ E
Samui's busiest beach, a long sweep of sand with the island's densest strip of hotels, restaurants, shops and nightlife behind it.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot position 9°31.082'N 100°03.749'E: anchor anywhere in the bay in 5-10 m on sand. Open to the east: in the southwest season an easterly ground swell can still make it uncomfortable despite westerly winds, and it is untenable in NE-monsoon surges. Noise from bars can run late. Local bus or taxi to Nathon takes about 45 minutes. Watch for jet skis and swimmers near the beach; land the dinghy at the quieter north end.
Best for
Nightlife, restaurants and the Samui Regatta
Season
Calm-weather stop; avoid in NE surges
