Cousin anchorage (outside the marine reserve)
4° 19.6′ S · 55° 39.6′ E · approximate
A temporary daytime anchorage off Cousin while you wait for the reserve boat — open roadstead off a tiny island, chosen on the lee side for the season.
Practical
The Moorings 2024 eGuide: 'no mooring buoys available — anchorage possible'. Anchor clear of coral, outside or at the edge of the ~400 m marine reserve, on the side sheltered from the prevailing monsoon: northwest of the island in the SE trades (May–Oct; this coordinate), southeast of it (around -4.334, 55.668) in the NW monsoon. Daytime only — Cousin is a morning stop; overnight at Grand Anse Praslin or Baie Ste Anne. Depth and holding not published in the sources used — sound in and snorkel the anchor. Coordinate approx: about 600 m NW of the Wikipedia island position, beyond the reserve boundary drawn on the Commons Cousin.svg map.
