Anchorage· Praslin· Seychelles

Anse Volbert (Côte d'Or)

4° 18.8′ S · 55° 45.1′ E · approximate

The long, shaded north-coast bay of Côte d'Or, Praslin's main beach resort strip, with St Pierre islet and Curieuse in view and a village of shops, Creole restaurants and dive centres along the shore.

Practical

The Moorings rates the anchorage excellent in most wind conditions; no mooring buoys. Red zone: anchor NORTH of the line between Pointe Zanguilles and Chauve Souris islet; the south of the bay is too shallow (Moorings eGuide). Sand bottom, good holding (koek.sc). Loses its protection when the swell has a northerly component, and it is a working anchorage with hotel water taxis and supply boats moving through. Land the dinghy on the public beach. Landing fee applies only for St Pierre marine park, plus SCR 250 for a night on the park moorings (Moorings eGuide 2024). Be anchored an hour before sunset. Position is approximate: placed north of the Chauve Souris–Pointe Zanguilles line about 500 m off the beach, from the OSM coastline.

Best for

All-round Praslin base: village, restaurants, diving and St Pierre on the doorstep

Season

Most of the year; uncomfortable in northerly swell (NW monsoon Dec–Mar)
