Chauve Souris Islet (Praslin)

4° 18.6′ S · 55° 44.7′ E

A tiny wooded granite islet, about 0.007 km², just off the west end of Côte d'Or beach, with a small lodge on it; it marks the western end of The Moorings' Anse Volbert anchoring line.

Practical

Use it as a mark: anchor north of the line from Chauve Souris to Pointe Zanguilles, as the bay to the south is too shallow (Moorings eGuide). The islet is private (hotel accommodation, Wikipedia); do not land without invitation. Coco de mer palms once grew here (Wikipedia, Lodoicea). Its rocks lie only a few hundred metres off the beach, within easy snorkelling reach by dinghy in calm water.
