Anse Boileau Anchorage

The preferred anchorage in the northern part of Boileau Bay according to the US Sailing Directions: an open, reef-fronted fishermen's bay off a working village with a clinic, police station and shops ashore.

Coordinate derived: about 360 m offshore of the village beach, south of the OSM bay label, checked to be in water against the OSM coastline; no published soundings, so sound in by eye and anchor on sand outside the fringing reef. NGA Pub. 171 (2010 edition): the SW side of Mahé is indented by small bays fronted by steep-to reefs, where anchorage can generally be taken outside the reefs by vessels with local knowledge; it names Anse la Mouche and Anse Boileau as the preferred anchorages in Boileau Bay, with Anse la Mouche better protected from swell. Pub. 171 also charts a prohibited area about 0.6 mile long extending about 0.6 mile offshore close NW of Anse Boileau, its seaward corners marked by special buoys: stay south of it. Stork Patch (5.5 m coral, swell rises over it) lies in the approach 2.7 miles SW of Ile aux Vaches, and the Trois Dames rock (under 1.8 m, breaks heavily) lies about 1 mile NW of Ile aux Vaches. Inside the bay the water is very shallow, with local boats on moorings in the shallows and seaweed June-September (Seyvillas). West-facing: a lee in the SE trades but expect some shore break for the dinghy; exposed in the NW monsoon. Ashore: Anse Boileau clinic (The Moorings lists +248 435 5555), police, supermarkets, bus stop.
