Wakes Cove (Valdes Island)
49° 7.6′ N · 123° 42.3′ W
A small provincial park cove at the north tip of Valdes Island, on the south side of Gabriola Passage. Boats use it mainly to wait for slack water before running the pass.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM bay. Small, with old docks and structures in much of the bay and current from the pass sweeping in; fine for a two-hour wait, poor for a night. Kendrick Island on the Gabriola side is a bigger, better-sheltered place to wait. Valdes Island is largely Lyackson First Nation land outside the park; land only within the park. Chart 3475.
