Silva Bay (Gabriola Island)

49° 9.0′ N · 123° 41.9′ W

A busy, sheltered bay at Gabriola's south-east tip, ringed by islets and home to two marinas, a pub and a shipyard. It is the usual base for running Gabriola Passage or crossing the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM point for Silva Bay Marina. Silva Bay Resort and Marina: VHF 66A, guest moorage (book ahead), 30 amp and limited 100 amp power, water, showers, laundry, liquor store, fuel dock with diesel and mid-grade gas, pub and restaurant open year-round. Page's Resort and Marina also takes visitors. Anchoring room is tight: the bay is full of moorings, and anchoring is banned in the floatplane lane along the marina docks. Despite the islands, northwest and southeast winds funnel through and push boats around at the docks. Shipyard with marine railway and travel lift. Drumbeg Provincial Park is a short walk. Check the approach on chart 3475: islets and reefs surround the entrances.
