Anchorage· Gabriola· Salish Sea — San Juans, Gulf Islands & Desolation Sound
Degnen Bay (Gabriola Island)
49° 8.0′ N · 123° 42.7′ W
A well-protected bay just west of Gabriola Passage, crowded with local moorings but snug in a blow. A killer whale petroglyph is carved on a rock slab near the head of the bay.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM bay. Enter on the east side close to Josef Point to avoid rocks in the middle. Little free room among the moorings; cruisers describe it as a storm hole when you can find a spot. Public wharf with about 58 m (190 ft) of space, power and garbage drop; commercial fishing boats have priority. Whirlpools form off the south end of the bay when Gabriola Passage runs hard. Chart 3475.
