Tribune Bay (Hornby Island)

49° 31.1′ N · 124° 37.8′ W

A wide, white-sand bay on the south-east side of Hornby Island, with warm, shallow water in summer. It is a popular first or last night for boats based in Comox, about 15-20 nm away depending on the route.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bay point. Anchor well out on sand in about 5.5-9 m (18-30 ft); the bottom shelves so gently that the water is still only about 9 m (30 ft) deep half a mile offshore. Fully open to the south-east: leave if south-easterlies are forecast. Very busy beach in summer. Tribune Bay Provincial Park ashore; the Hornby Island Co-op store is a walk inland. From Comox, the route south runs through Baynes Sound or round the outside of Denman and Hornby; check the Comox Bar and Lambert Channel on the chart.
