Ladysmith Harbour Marinas (Ladysmith)

48° 59.8′ N · 123° 48.8′ W

A long, sheltered harbour south of Nanaimo with a small heritage town on the hill above it. The former Ladysmith Community Marina, run for years by a volunteer society, has been taken over by the Stz'uminus First Nation and renamed; the harbour authority's Fisherman's Wharf also takes visitors.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM outline of the former community marina. Status is in flux: news reports from 2023-2024 describe a lease dispute after which the Ladysmith Maritime Society left and Stz'uminus First Nation's development company took over; a boating forum gives the new name as Oyster Bay Marina. I could not read these reports directly. Earlier listings gave about 245 m (800 ft) of guest moorage with 30 amp power, water, pump-out and VHF 66A, but current terms are not confirmed: call ahead. Ladysmith Fisherman's Wharf (just north) has limited transient moorage with 30 amp power, washrooms, showers and laundry; commercial boats have priority in winter. Town is up the hill, about 800 m. The harbour is well sheltered; check depths and the drying flats on chart 3475.
