Deception Pass Bridge (Deception Pass)

48° 24.5′ N · 122° 38.7′ W

The 1935 bridge spans the narrow, rock-walled gap between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands via tiny Pass Island. Below it the tide pours through at up to 8 knots or more, with whirlpools and standing waves. Deception Pass State Park around it covers about 3,850 acres and is one of the busiest parks in the state.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM bridge. Vertical clearance 144 ft (44 m) at the centre and 104 ft (32 m) elsewhere; overhead cables east of the bridge clear 150 ft and 220 ft (Coast Pilot). Walkers can cross on the bridge sidewalks for the view. Under way, transit at slack: see the Deception Pass passage notes and NOAA station PUG1701.
