Popototan Island Anchorage (Coral Bay)

11° 59.7′ N · 119° 51.4′ E

A sheltered bay on the south side of Popototan Island at the north end of Culion, with a beach and a reef backed by mangroves; the resort there now looks abandoned.

Practical

Valhalla (2008): 11 59.686N 119 51.392E; a resort-owner's mooring behind them was available to visitors. Lifelines (2008): 11 59.6N 119 51.4E in 16.5 m, beautiful privately protected reef (snorkelling fee) and the 'North Cay' drop-off nearby. Webb (2009): 14 m mud over coral. Shanghaied (June): anchor held only on the third attempt with 50 m of chain, no mud on the anchor, and they did not trust it overnight in a fresh WSW. RCC/Plainsong (2025) sailed past: the central bay looked well sheltered but the resort and other buildings looked abandoned.

Best for

Lunch stop or settled-weather night on the Galoc channel route
